How Long Are Camels Pregnant?
Dromedary camels are pregnant for 400 days on average — over 13 months, among the longest gestations of any common domestic animal. Bactrian camels carry even longer and with more variability, from 370 to as many as 440 days. Camel calves are precocial, standing and walking within hours of birth — development that demands this exceptionally long gestation.
Litter Size & Species Differences
Camels almost always have a single calf — twin pregnancies are extremely rare and high-risk. The dromedary/Bactrian gestation difference reflects genuine species biology: Bactrian camels are adapted to harsher, more variable Central Asian climates, and their wider gestation range may reflect greater flexibility in timing births around resource availability.

How We Calculate Camel Gestation
The camel gestation calculator uses the formula: Due Date = Breeding Date + Average Gestation Days. The 400-day dromedary average and Bactrian range are derived from published veterinary and wildlife research.
