Editorial Policy and Quality Standards

Who We Are

GestationCalc is an independent reference site founded and edited by Kanika. We are not a veterinary practice and do not present ourselves as one: our job is accurate, well-sourced reference data and tools, with clear signposting to professional care.

Sourcing Rules

• Every gestation period and incubation time is verified against at least two independent primary sources before publication.
• Preferred sources, in order: veterinary references (Merck Veterinary Manual), government and extension material (USDA, universities), breed associations, and peer-reviewed literature for exotic species.
• We do not publish a figure sourced from a single website, and we do not source from forums or anecdotal reports.
• Where credible sources disagree, we publish the range and say so, rather than picking the number we like.
• The full reference list is public on the sources page.

Review and Update Cadence

Every page carries a visible review date from its author bio block. High-traffic species pages are re-checked against current references on a rolling basis; when a source changes or an error is found, the page is updated and the review date moves. We do not publish fake freshness: a date only changes when the content does.

Corrections

Errors are taken seriously and fixed fast: reported errors are reviewed and corrected within 48 hours where verification agrees. Every substantive correction is logged publicly on the corrections page with the date and what changed. If you spot an error, use the contact form and select "Content correction".

What We Deliberately Do Not Do

• No veterinary or medical advice: guidance is framed as planning information, with explicit thresholds for calling a professional.
• No invented credentials or fabricated experience: the site is honest about being an editorially run reference tool, not a clinic.
• No sponsored or paid placements in content; if advertising ever appears on the site, it will be visually distinct and disclosed.
• No scraping or unattributed copying of other sites' tables.

Tool Quality Standards

Calculators follow the published methodology: DST-safe and leap-year-safe date math, range-based results, breed adjustments only where data supports them, and all computation in your browser.
