Puppy Weight Calculator — Predict Adult Dog Size
Enter your puppy's current weight, age in weeks, and breed size category to get an estimated adult weight, based on typical canine growth curves.
Quick Answer
Puppies grow fastest early on, reaching adult weight anywhere from 9 months (toy breeds) to 24 months (giant breeds). Enter your puppy's current weight, age, and size category above for a predicted adult weight.

Weight Prediction by Breed Size
Growth rate and time-to-maturity differ substantially by breed size category. The calculator above uses a growth curve tailored to each category, since a toy breed puppy and a giant breed puppy reach the same percentage of their adult weight at very different ages.
| Size Category | Adult Weight Range | Reaches Adult Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Toy | 4–12 lbs | 9–10 months |
| Small | 12–25 lbs | 10–12 months |
| Medium | 25–50 lbs | ~12 months |
| Large | 50–90 lbs | 12–15 months |
| Giant | 90–180+ lbs | 18–24 months |
Why Giant Breeds Take So Much Longer
Giant breeds like Great Danes and Mastiffs have a far greater total amount of skeletal and muscle mass to build compared to smaller breeds, and their growth plates remain open longer to accommodate this. Rushing giant breed growth with excess calories or calcium can actually cause serious skeletal problems like developmental orthopedic disease, which is why slow, controlled growth is specifically recommended for these breeds via large-breed puppy formulas.
Nutrition During Growth Phases
Puppies need a calorie- and nutrient-dense puppy-specific formula during their rapid early growth phase, then a gradual transition to adult food as they approach their breed's maturity age. Switching too early can shortchange growth, while switching too late — especially for large and giant breeds — can contribute to excessive growth rate and joint problems. Large and giant breed puppies specifically benefit from large-breed puppy formulas that moderate calcium and calorie density to support slower, more controlled bone growth.
How We Predict Adult Weight
The calculator estimates what percentage of adult weight a puppy has likely reached at its current age (based on the selected size category's typical growth curve), then divides current weight by that percentage to estimate the eventual adult weight.
